Write reusable email templates
Create a template once, personalise it with merge fields, and reuse it in many campaigns.
A template stores the subject and body of a marketing email so you do not retype it. Open Marketing > Email Templates.
Create a template
- Select New Template. A starter template called "Untitled Template" is created and opens in the editor.
- Change the Template name (for your team) and the Subject line.
- Optionally add a Preheader, the short preview text many inboxes show beside the subject.
- Write the HTML body. Add a Plain-text fallback if you want one.
- Optionally set a Default sender name and a Default reply-to email.
- Select Save Template.
The Live Preview (sample data) on the right updates as you type. It is a quick approximation. The campaign's own preview is the accurate one.
Personalise with merge fields
Select a merge field button to insert it where your cursor is. These are the available tokens:
| Token | Fills in |
|---|---|
{{contact.name}} | The contact's name (or "there" if unknown) |
{{contact.email}} | The contact's email |
{{contact.phone}} | The contact's phone |
{{unsubscribe_link}} | The contact's own unsubscribe link |
{{company.name}} | Your company name |
{{company.website}}, {{company.email}}, {{company.phone}} | Your company contact details |
{{company.logo_url}} | Your company logo address |
{{company.footer_text}} | Your company footer text |
Select Insert company branding to add a logo and a footer line with your company name and footer text.
Manage templates
The list shows each template's name, subject, sender and when it was last updated. Select the name or pencil to edit. Select the bin to delete, after you confirm.
Good to know
- Values are made safe before they go into your HTML, so a name containing symbols cannot break the layout.
- Deleting a template does not change campaigns already made from it. They keep their own copy of the content.
- Use a template in a campaign at step 3, Content. See Campaigns.
- Including
{{unsubscribe_link}}gives recipients an easy way out. See Consent, suppression and unsubscribing.
