Running the live queue
Call, hold, skip, serve and complete customers waiting in line, add walk-ins, and pause or close a queue.
The Queue board (Queue) is where staff work through customers waiting in line. Anyone with the Queue View permission can see it; running it needs the Queue Edit permission. Without that, rows show View only.
Pick a queue
Use the Queue selector at the top right. The page shows the queue's status (Open, Paused or Closed) and how many are in line, for example "3 / 10 in line", with a note when the queue is at or over capacity and new people are waitlisted.
Work the line
- Click Call next to call the next customer. They become Called.
- If the customer is present, click Check in (if not already shown as checked in) and then Start serving.
- When finished, click Complete.
Other actions on a Called customer:
- Hold puts them on hold; click Recall later to call them again.
- Skip moves on without serving them.
- No-show records that they did not come (also available on held customers).
Cancel removes a waiting, called, held or serving customer. For customers who are waiting, called or held, Transfer to... then Go moves them to another queue.
Add a walk-in
Under Add walk-in, enter the Walk-in name and Phone (both optional) and click Add walk-in. They get the next token. Leave both empty for an unnamed walk-in.
Pause or close the queue
- Pause stops the line temporarily; Resume opens it again.
- Close ends the queue; Reopen brings it back.
The table
Each row shows the token number (#), the customer and phone, a status (Waiting, Called, On hold, Serving, Complete, No-show, Cancelled, Transferred), whether they are checked in, and when they joined.
Good to know
- Customers can join some queues themselves through a QR code and see their position. See QR codes and online booking.
- Positions and tokens are handed out one at a time, so two people never get the same number.
- Queue actions are recorded in the audit log.
- For clinics, the Clinic > Queue page is a separate patient queue with doctor tokens. See Run the daily queue.
