Keep rooms clean with the room rack and housekeeping

See every room's state, move rooms through cleaning, and take rooms out of service for maintenance.

Room states

Every room is always in one of these states: Ready, Reserved, Occupied, Dirty, Being cleaned, Inspected, Maintenance or Blocked. Each has its own colour. A room becomes Occupied only by checking a guest in, and becomes Dirty by itself when its guest checks out.

The Housekeeping page

Open Housekeeping. Rooms that need work are shown in three columns:

  1. Dirty: a guest has left. Click Start cleaning.
  2. Being cleaned: click Cleaned when the room is done.
  3. Inspected: click Make ready when a supervisor is happy; the room becomes Ready and can be given to the next guest.

If nothing needs doing, the page says "Every room is clean and ready." You need the Hotel "Edit" permission to see the buttons.

The Rooms page (room rack)

Open Rooms for every room grouped by floor. At the top, coloured counters show how many rooms are in each state. Each tile shows the room number, type, state and the guest in it or the guest arriving today.

  1. Click a room tile.
  2. A panel opens. If a guest is in the room, Open stay takes you to their folio; if someone arrives today, Open booking appears.
  3. To change the room's state, optionally type a Reason (for maintenance or blocking), then click one of the buttons offered, for example Mark dirty, Needs maintenance, Block or Back in service.

Good to know

  • A room with a guest cannot be changed; check the guest out first.
  • A room that has upcoming bookings cannot go to Maintenance or Blocked until those bookings are moved to another room.
  • Maintenance and Blocked rooms are not offered when booking, and do not count towards the occupancy percentage.
  • Only the buttons that make sense from the current state are shown, so you cannot skip steps.
  • See also the check-in rules.
