Units of measure

Choose how an item is counted, such as pieces, kilograms or boxes.

A unit tells Legasum how an item is counted or sold. Each item can have a main unit and, for products, a secondary unit.

See your units

Open Inventory > Units (or Units of Measure). The list shows each unit's Name, Code and Source:

  • Built-in units come with Legasum and are shared by every company. They cannot be deleted.
  • Custom units are the ones your company added.

Add a unit

  1. On the Units page, type the unit name in the first box (for example "Pieces").
  2. Type a short Code in the second box. Codes are saved in capital letters.
  3. Click Add.

You can also do this from an item: click the + beside Unit, enter a name and a code, and click Add.

Delete a unit

Click the bin icon on a custom unit's row and confirm "Delete this unit?". Built-in units have no bin icon.

Use units on an item

  • Pick the main Unit when you add or edit an item.
  • For a product sold in two ways, set a Secondary Unit (optional) and enter how many of it make 1 of the main unit. The item page then shows the relationship, in the form "1 (main unit) = number (secondary unit)".

Good to know

  • Both a name and a code are needed; the Add button does nothing if either is empty.
  • Adding needs the edit permission for Inventory, and deleting needs the delete permission.
