Warehouses
Set up the places where you keep stock and choose the default one.
A warehouse is a place where you keep stock, such as a shop floor, a store room or a second site. Setting them up lets you see how much of each product sits where.
Add a warehouse
- Open Inventory > Warehouses (or Warehouses).
- Type a Warehouse name and, if you like, an Address (optional).
- Click Add.
Warehouse names must be different from each other. A repeated name gives the message "A warehouse with this name already exists."
The first warehouse you add is automatically the Default.
The default warehouse
The default warehouse is where stock goes when nothing more specific is chosen, for example opening stock and stock adjustments where you leave the warehouse on Default.
To change it, click Make default on another warehouse. Only one warehouse is the default at a time.
Edit a warehouse
- Click the pencil icon on the row.
- Change the name or address.
- Click Save, or Cancel to leave it as it was.
Delete a warehouse
Click the bin icon and confirm "Delete this warehouse?". A warehouse that already has stock movements recorded against it cannot be deleted, and you will see "This warehouse has stock movements recorded against it and cannot be deleted." If you delete the default warehouse, the oldest remaining one becomes the default.
Good to know
- If your company has branches and you pick one in the sidebar, the list shows that branch's warehouses plus the shared ones, with a note "Showing the branch picked in the sidebar".
- Warehouses have their own permission, separate from items. You may be able to see items but not warehouses, or the other way round.
- To move stock between warehouses, see Adjust stock and transfer between warehouses.
