Get started with Hospital

When the Hospital menu appears, who can do what, and the order to set things up.

When you will see Hospital

The Hospital menu appears in the sidebar only when the branch you are working in runs the hospital business. A branch runs it when its type is Hospital, or when Hospital is one of the extra businesses added to the branch. If you do not see the menu, ask an administrator to check the branch type in Branches.

The module also has to be switched on for your Legasum account. If a Hospital screen says "Hospital is not available yet", nothing is wrong with your data. Ask your administrator to have the module turned on.

The menu holds five screens, which are also shown as tabs at the top of every Hospital page:

ScreenWhat it is for
Ward BoardEvery ward and bed at a glance, with the patient in each bed
AdmissionsAdmit patients and open their charts
HousekeepingBeds that need cleaning
Hospital ReportsOccupancy, admissions, stay length and revenue
Wards & BedsSet up wards, daily rates and the number of beds

If your company has several hospital branches, a Hospital drop-down appears under the tabs. Choose the one you want; it also changes the branch picker in the sidebar.

Permissions

Hospital holds sensitive medical data, so grant access deliberately. The access is set per role under the permission module Hospital:

  • View - read the ward board, admissions, patient charts and reports. This lets a person see medical information.
  • Edit - run the wards: register and admit patients, add notes and vitals, order and give medicines, add charges, move or discharge patients, and change a bed's state.
  • Create - set up wards, beds and daily rates.

Settling a bill also needs the Create permission on POS (the same permission the till needs). See Charge the bill.

The order to set things up

  1. Make sure the branch is a hospital (see above).
  2. Assign your doctors to the branch. Doctors are the Professionals who work at that branch; they appear in the Doctor list when you admit a patient.
  3. Set up wards and beds.
  4. Admit a patient.

Good to know

  • Patients are shared with the Clinic. A patient registered in the hospital is the same person record used by the outpatient clinic, so there is only one record for one person.
  • Times are saved exactly as staff see them on the wall clock, so the days of a stay match the calendar days your team saw.
  • Every important action (admit, move, discharge, bill) is written to the audit log.
