Keep rooms and beds clean
See every private room and dorm bed on the rack, clean them after check-out, and take them out of service.
States of a room or bed
A private room or a dorm bed is always Ready, Reserved, Occupied, Dirty, Being cleaned, Maintenance or Blocked. A hostel has no separate inspection step. It becomes Occupied only by checking a guest in, and becomes Dirty by itself when the guest checks out.
The Housekeeping page
Open Housekeeping. Two columns list what needs work:
- Dirty: click Start cleaning.
- Being cleaned: click Make ready. The room or bed is now Ready for the next guest.
If there is nothing to do, you will see "Every room and bed is clean and ready." You need the Hostel "Edit" permission to see the buttons.
The Rooms & beds page (the rack)
Open Rooms & beds. Rooms are grouped by floor. Private rooms are single tiles. Each dorm is a card with a tile for every bed. Coloured counters at the top show how many rooms and beds are in each state.
- Click a room or bed tile.
- A panel opens. If a guest is there, Open stay goes to their bill; if someone arrives today, Open booking appears.
- To change its state, optionally type a Reason (for maintenance or blocking), then click a button such as Mark dirty, Start cleaning, Make ready, Needs maintenance, Block or Back in service.
Good to know
- A dorm's beds are cleaned one by one. Clicking the dorm itself (the "Dorm D1" button) only lets you take the whole dorm out of service or put it back.
- A room or bed with a guest cannot be changed; check the guest out first.
- A room or bed with upcoming bookings cannot go to Maintenance or Blocked until those guests are moved.
- Maintenance and Blocked units are not offered for booking and do not count in the occupancy percentage.
- Only the buttons that make sense from the current state are shown.
