Products and services at a glance
How the item list works, and the difference between a product and a service.
On this page
Everything you sell or buy is an item. Items come in two types, and the Inventory menu has a list for each.
Products and services
| Product | Service | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Something you can hold, count and store | Work or time you charge for |
| Stock | Can be tracked (the Track inventory box is ticked by default) | Never tracked |
| Tax code field | HSN Code | SAC Code |
| Extra fields | Secondary unit, reorder level, opening stock | None of these |
The type is chosen when you add the item and cannot be changed afterwards.
Open the list
Open Inventory in the sidebar and choose:
- Products - only products.
- Services - only services.
- All Items - both together (the page title then reads "Products & Services").
You can also go straight to Items.
What the list shows
Each row shows the item Name, Type, Category, SKU, Sales Price, Stock and Status (Active or Inactive). Click a name to open the item, use the pencil icon to edit it, or the bin icon to remove it.
In the Stock column a dash means the item does not track stock. If an item has a reorder level and its stock is at or below that level, the number is shown in red.
Find items
- Type in the search box. It looks in the name, the SKU and the barcode, so you can scan or type a barcode to find an item.
- Use the type drop-down (All Items, Products, Services) and the Status drop-down (Active or Inactive).
What else you can do from this page
- Add a new item with Add New Item.
- Open Categories and Units to manage the lists used on items: Categories, Units.
- Import, export and bulk edit items.
Good to know
- Removing an item asks "Move this item to the recycle bin?" and takes it off your lists. Removing needs the delete permission for Inventory.
- The buttons you see depend on your role. For example, exporting needs the export permission and adding needs the create permission.
