Create and edit a project
Add a new project with its client, dates and budget, and change those details later.
Create a project
- Open Create New Project, or click Create New Project on the Projects list.
- Under Project Information, fill in: - Project Name (required). - Client: pick one from your active clients, or leave No client. - Description.
- Under Timeline, set the Start Date and Due Date if you know them.
- Under Budget, enter a Budget Amount if you have one.
- Click Create Project.
You land on the new project. Every new project starts with two task groups, Today and This Week.
Edit a project
- Open the project and click Edit at the top right. (The button is hidden if your role cannot edit projects.)
- Change any of the fields above. The edit page also has Status and Priority, picked from the lists set up for your company. A project that has never had them set shows Not set.
- Click Save Changes, or Cancel to go back without saving.
Rules to know
- The Due Date cannot be before the Start Date. The page shows "Due date cannot be before the start date."
- The client must be one of your company's clients; otherwise you see "Please select a valid client."
- The budget on the project is a simple planning figure. The agreed, versioned price lives on the Agreement tab. See Agreement and change orders.
Good to know
- Creating or changing a project needs the edit permission on Projects.
- Changes to projects are recorded in the audit log.
